Chris Jam is a poet, radio presenter, and DJ who has been a driving force in innovating spoken word and open mic nights in Manchester for over 20 years.

In 1999, he co-founded Speakeasy—a vibrant collective of poets, singers, DJs, and dancers. What began as a grassroots initiative grew into an award-winning event, providing the platform where Chris honed his vocal craft and developed his distinctive style.

Throughout his career, Chris has collaborated on influential projects with institutions such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), as well as Coventry, Birmingham, and Manchester Universities. His passion for nurturing emerging voices has also led him to contribute to Wordsmith and Young Identity, two renowned poetry education organizations.

Chris Jam’s legacy as a pioneer in Manchester’s spoken word scene continues to inspire and uplift the next generation of artists.
