Galliano
Galliano are a London-based acid jazz group, originally active between 1988 and 1997, and widely recognised as one of the defining acts of the UK acid jazz scene. They were the first group to release music on Eddie Piller and Gilles Peterson’s Acid Jazz label, and later became the first signing to Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud imprint.
Led by vocalist Robert Gallagher, the group blended acid jazz with soul, funk and spoken word, drawing influence from acts like The Last Poets. Their debut album In Pursuit of the 13th Note featured Roy Ayers and earned an Edison Award in 1992.
After building a strong live reputation throughout the 90s, Galliano disbanded in 1997 following a final show at Dingwalls in Camden. The group returned in 2023, completing a UK tour that culminated in a sold-out show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in 2024.
